Richness
The universe asks me
what richness means to me.
I begin to dream
of silk damask,
of ombré hues
from ocher to chestnut,
from rose to tangerine,
of wide-wale corduroy,
of solving quadratic equations.
I imagine the taste
of dark shavings in chocolate mousse.
I feel late May’s sunshine
heavy on my shoulders,
and remember our heart to heart
embrace that lasts
through several deep sighs.
